WSOF was formed in 2012, having signed a broadcast deal with the NBC Sports Network. This will be the third MMA promotion that NBC Sports has hosted, having broadcast World Extreme Cagefighting and Ultimate Fighting Championship events when the channel was formerly known as Versus. NBC Sports had been one of the bidders for the rights to broadcast future UFC events, but lost out to Fox. However, some journalists regarded WSOFs deal with NBC Sports to be a considerable coup for a debuting promotion, considering NBC Sports' past interest in the UFC. Upon the announcement of the broadcast deal, WSOF President Ray Sefo stated that the promotion wanted to host 8-10 events per year, whilst holding a one-year deal with NBC Sports. However, the next day, an NBC spokesman revealed that the deal only covered WSOFs inaugural event, with the option for more, should NBC hold a positive evaluation. On February the 4th 2013 it was reported by several news outlets that NBC Sports signed a 3 year deal with WSoF.

World Series of Fighting announces several new signings
Bristol Marunde (12-9) A veteran of the sport Bristol Marunde has fought in some of the top MMA promotions around including M1, UFC and Strikeforce. To the casual MMA fan Bristol will be best known for his tenure on TUF 16 where he picked up wins over George Lockhart and Julian Lane before losing a decision to Neil Magny. Despite losing his last three fights there is no doubt Marunde can still compete in the big leagues as those losses were at the hands of Jacare, Viscardi Andrade and Clint Hester. Marunde to his credit holds notable victories over Jay Silva, Shane Primm and Rich Attonito over his 8 year career.
Chris 'The Cleveland Assassin' Lozano (10-3) A bellator Veteran who has recently made appearances of Fight Master. Chris Lozano is a knockout artist by trade with 8 of his 10 victories coming by way of Knockout. However during his Fight Master tenure Lozano did not get to show these skills as the three fights he had all went to the score cards with two wins over Bryan Travers and Josh Quayhagen to his credit and a loss to Mike Bronzoulis. Lozano brings a wealth of big name fights with him into WSOF as he has fought the likes of Yoshiyuki Yoshida, Karl Ammousou, Lyman Good, Brent Weedman and Douglas Lima in his 4 year career.
Cristiano 'Soldier Boy' Souza (6-0) Just like Chris Lozano. Cristiano Souza has recently competed in Bellator Fight Master. During the opening round Souza quickly impressed as he scored a knockout over Steve Montgomery in the 1st round. However coming into the second round Souza was upset by Evan Cutts thanks to a triangle choke. Over his six fights in which he holds six victories Cristiano has proven to be well versed in all aspects of the game with 3 KOs, 2 Submissions and a decision to his credit leading to him becoming one of the top undefeated prospects around during his 4 year career.
John 'The One' Maguire (18-6) A one time Welterweight stand out in the UFC John Maguire was holding steady going 2-0 in the organisation. However a 3 fight skid and a drop to Lightweight was not enough to turn the London Natives luck around. A known grinder in style who favors the submission game 10 of Maguire's victories have come by way of submission. With his debut in WSOF looming Maguire is expected to have another try at Lightweight despite most of his success coming at Welterweight. Maguire over his long career has fought the likes of Matt Riddle, John Hathaway, Tom Watson and Damarques Johnson. Notable wins include DaMarques Johnson, Michael Pastou and Jake Bostwick
Bola 'Cashflow' Omoyele (7-1) Another London Native joining WSOF is Bola Omoyele. A heavy handed slugger with 6 of his 7 wins coming by way of knock out. Bola was expected to do big things when he appeared on TUF: Smashes. However in a shock result Bola was submitted by Manuel Rodriguez with a north south choke. Since that time Bola has returned back to the local circuit and picked up a vicious stoppage of Vincent Del Guerra.
Danny 'Hot Chocolate' Roberts (9-1) From Liverpool in England Danny Roberts has slowly amassed a large following thanks to his performances in the CWFC. A known finisher all but one of Roberts' victories have ended before the final bell. Hold 4 KOs and 4 submissions under his belt Danny is showing a more well rounded game as the fights go on.
Ronnie 'Iron Mann' Mann (22-6) One of the more experienced names joining the WSOF roster is Ronnie Mann. From Cheltenham in England. Ronnie Mann has become one of the most exciting prospects to watch especially now with his Bellator tenure as well. During his time in Bellator Mann fought many notables including current champion Pat Curran who he dropped a decision to. Other notables who Mann has fought include Rodrigo Lima, Hatsu Hioki and mike Corey. In his fight fight after departing from bellator. Mann wasted no time in putting away Jose Luis Zapater as he scored a quick TKO finish at 3:19 in the 1st round.
Michael 'Venom' Page (5-0) Out of all those signed none will have generated the buzz that Michael Page has in only 5 fights. A kickboxing prodigy who has entertained with his in cage antics looks better in each fight as his competition steps up. With all his fights ending in the 1st round you would expect Page to have a string of Knockouts however as of late Page has shown a submission game scoring both a rear naked choke and a armbar. His last fight with the Super Fight League also happened to be the longest of his career as Page defeated Ramdam Mohamed at 3:48.

MMA: World Series of Fighting presents
WSOF 5
September 14th 2013
Under Card Heavyweight Bout: Derrick 'The Caveman' Mehmen (15-5) vs Rolles Gracie (8-1) The fight begins with Rolles immeadiately looking for a take down on Mehmen. Derrick is able to stuff it and this forces Gracie to have to stand with the heavy handed Mehmen. The round then saw Mehmen batter Gracie with punches and heavily rock him with a body shot at one point. The second round then came out and Derrick looked to continue his aggression as he tried to rush Rolles early on. However this proved to be a mistake as Gracie was able to secure a takedown. On the ground Gracie started to dominate Derrick and come close to securing a rear naked choke as the round come to a close. Round three comes out and both men look tired. Gracie attempts another takedown only to have Derrick sprawl and meet him with some hard elbows to the side of the head for a TKO finish. Result: Derrick Mehmen (16-5) defeated Rolles Gracie (8-2) by TKO at 1:25 in the 3rd round
Lightweight Bout: TJ 'The Spider' O'Brien (18-6) vs Colin 'Freakshow' Fletcher (9-2) The fight starts out with both fighters touching gloves in a sign of respect. After a brief measuring out stage for a minute and a half Fletcher begins to go on the offensive utilizing some highly unorthodox striking. After being clipped with a spinning heel kick. O'Brien elected to take the fight to the mat only to be snared in a tight guillotine choke by Colin. The choke is on deep and after a few seconds TJ is forced to tap out. Result: Colin Fletcher (10-2) defeated TJ o'Brien (18-7) by submission (guillotine choke) at 3:45 in 1st round
Heavyweight Bout: Brett 'Da Grimm' Rogers (12-5) vs Devin Cole (20-5-1) The fight starts out and both men meet in the center of the cage when Brett Rogers is able to connect with a sledgehammer of a right hand. Welterweight Bout: Jay Hieron (23-7) vs Ramico Blackmon (8-2) Making his MMA World Series debut Jay Hieron wasted no time in in the first round in using his wrestling to take down and control Ramico Blackmon. Result: Jay Hieron (24-7) defeated Ramico Blackmon (8-3) by unanimous decision
Middleweight Bout: Roger Gracie (6-2) vs Dustin Jacoby (8-3) The second Gracie in action tonight did not have the problems his relative did. Jacoby was no threat to Roger on the ground as Roger then swept Dustin taking the mount position before forcing the submission with an Arm Triangle. Result: Roger Gracie (7-2) defeated Dustin Jacoby (8-4) by submission (arm triangle) at 3:57 in the 1st round.
Main Card Lightweight Bout: Jacob Volkmann (15-4) vs Dan Lauzon (22-8) A rather disappointing bout to open the main card portion of the show saw notorious grinder Jacob Volkmann repeatedly takedown Dan Lauzon and methodically beat him down whilst avoiding any and all submission attempts leading to a unanimous decision Result: Jacob Volkman (16-4) defeated Dan Lauzon (22-9) by unanimous decision

Result: Jan Blachowicz (18-3) defeated Rodney Wallace (18-7) by unanimous decision
Middleweight Bout: Jesse 'JT Money' Taylor (26-9) vs Elvis 'The ' Mutapcic (13-2) In the fight match of the Middleweight tournament two top Middleweights made their WSOF debuts. The first round started out with a small feeling out process between Taylor and Elvis before both men started to open up more with their striking. Elvis very much looked to be the better striker out of the two as he landed some great leg kicks in the early stages until Jesse Taylor was able to take him down and control him for the rest of the round. The second round saw Jesse look right for a take down only to have Elvis stuff it. The confidence this gave to Mutapcic was big as he then opened up a little more with his striking and appeared to hurt JT with a spinning back kick to the mid section. Eventually Taylor was able to secure a takedown again but Elvis stayed busy off of his back at the same time. The final round then came out and it was arguably either man's fight to win. This caused Elvis to actually go for broke as he attempted a superman punch and a flying knee in rapid succession. As the round then come to a close Taylor come close to ending the fight in his own right when he nearly secured a rear naked choke. In the end however Elvis was able to survive to the choke and force the fight to a decision. Result: Jesse Taylor (27-9) defeated Elvis Mutapcic (13-3) by split decision
Middleweight bout: David Branch (12-3) vs Danillo Villefort (14-4)The second fight in the Middleweight tournament saw Wrestler David Branch look to spoil the debut of Danillo Villefort. Early on in the opening stages it seemed Branch might do just that as David used his wrestling to control Villefort. However late in the round Villefort connected with a hard elbow from the clinch which opened a nasty cut above the eye of Branch. With blood flowing from the cut into the eye on inspecting it at the end of the round the doctor ruled David was unable to continue leading to a TKO finish for Villefort.Result: Danillo Villefort (15-4) defeated David Branch (12-4) by TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 in the 1st roundCatch Weight Bout: Andrei Arlovski (19-10-1) vs Mike Kyle (20-9-1)Originally supposed to be a Light Heavyweight bout between Mike Kyle and Anthony Johnson before injury forced Rumble to pull out. A step in from Andrei Arlovski caused this bout to become a catch weight fight. The fight itself saw both men come out extremely aggressive from the opening bell and in a violent stoppage Arlvoski was able to drop Kyle with a head kick before following up with some hard punches for the Knockout victory.
